Hi pals. And hi new subscribers from the Small Bow :)
I’m in Lucerne for three weeks and it’s been interesting to tell people, “Oh, I’m in Switzerland for a residency,” and have them go, “Cool, the one in the tree house?” And then have to go, “No, the one on a lake but the tree house one sounds rad,” even if in my heart I am a bottom-bunk type of person and the thought of a tree house frightens me slightly.
In any case, this is the corner of the roof of the lake house where I’m staying. I’m here to crack open my fourth book again (the very late one that I have written about but not completed) and it’s looking like a pretty sizable structural re-break (I’m killing people and whole storylines).
It’s been pretty gloomy but each morning I’ve been popping down to the water and doing a quick cold plunge and feeling as though I’ve conquered the most difficult part of my day even before sitting down to write.
The night before I left New York, this had been my view.
It’s Julia Fox DJ’ing the Cultured 100 event at the Guggenheim, complete with tiny Fiji water bottles like this shit was media circa 2006, which was also a definitive vibe and the jet lag + emotional whiplash was something to work through when I arrived.
I don’t really know what day it is, only that it is not raining today but will be tomorrow but there is a browser tab open in my brain about the Met Ball and then another browser plug-in saying I don’t have to worry about any of it or even know what happened and that feels good. Meanwhile, I have never had to worry about the Met Ball but did it anyway?
I have not read the West Village Girlies cover story in New York Mag or the Lena Dunham leaving New York thing in the New Yorker but I know about them. Mostly I am preoccupied with the feeling of urgency that has dissipated since leaving my hometown and maybe that’s what both stories are about?
Anyway, here is a picture of some sheep on the property.
